Located on Mt. Teneriffe in North Bend, WA, less than 40 miles outside of Seattle.

A cedar-clad house on six acres of Cascade foothills, Original Mind Residency has a small footprint and an expansive view of McClellan Butte. It is a place of retreat and solitude, and of engagement and conversation with the beautiful second-growth forest surrounding it.

OMR is a place to dive-deep into one’s creative practice, whether it’s painting, writing, music, social innovation, or something formless and emergent. It is a place where creative and diverse people with a common ethos come together, for the sparks and co-creation that we all know and long for.

What is “Original Mind” ?

Original Mind is a state of being, like a clear mirror, reflecting what is before it, without increase or decrease. It’s an experience that we have all had as children, and sometimes in adulthood through vehicles such as art and nature. Original mind is the embodied state of integration, of wholeness.

Distance from one’s usual context is a necessary practice in spiritual traditions. With altered perspective, it is easier to accept and embrace all that is available as material for the creative process. We then learn to have the complexity of life’s situations coexist with the simplicity of original mind.
