Resting in Formlessness:

  • In this time of complexity, we all feel a degree of chaos within. At this same time, new visions and desires are coming through us. We allow all that to be, to sit with our confusion and doubt. Carving out this time is a significant leap, supported by OMR and its community.

  • Slowing down is not an easy practice. We meditate, sit and talk with each other and with the forest, and sit and do nothing. We feel our consciousness expand, questioning assumptions and paradigms, gaining experience in not knowing.

Engaging in Multi-Modal Practices:

  • We share the belief that everyone is creative. Practices such as timed writing and outdoor ed methodology that bypass well-worn mind structures serve well to create play (and a level playing ground) for all creatives. We experience the wonder of the creative journey, bowled over by life’s abundance and magical emergence, and remember the naturalness of this state of being.

  • The MO of OMR is the quiet yet intense energy of individuals engaging in practices separately yet together.

  • Writing practice, painting and visual arts practices, embodiment practices etc. create a creative yoga for the whole self, moving fluidly as needed by the system. Sometimes writing practice is the resting pose, sometimes painting practice.

Prototyping New Structures for Creative Work:

  • Starting on a creative journey implies changing the structure of our days. We witness and clarify one’s own practice, and support each other in actively designing/prototyping a creative life.

  • For some, creative work happens on a schedule, for some, it happens during retreats such as at OMR. We welcome residencies of significant duration as well as weekend trips. See Visit section.

Immersion in Place and Connection:

  • The forest is a conversation partner, and a co-creator in everything made here. This shifts what we do to be in support of nature, instead of ego. With the curiosity of a child, we spend time with the land, walking the backroads, appreciating the constant changes with the weather and the seasons.

  • We take care of those who come through here by sharing food and nourishing each other.

  • We take care of the place by leaving it better than when we found it.
